Microsoft Outlook XP Bug Notice |
|
posting updated on January 6, 2002. The e-mail program Microsoft Outlook XP currently cannot be used at Penn State due to a bug in its program. Outlook XP logs in to check e-mail and then disconnects. If you have not selected "Leave Mail on Server," then Outlook XP immediately logs in again and deletes any mail left on the server. The simultaneous logins occur within the established two minute time limit for checking e-mail and the deletion attempt fails. In the iterim, we suggest that you use Microsoft Outlook Express as an alternative. Other e-mail clients and alternatives can be found via the CAC Internet Access Guide. Microsoft Outlook Express is available on the CACPAC CD. The CAC is aware of this problem and is currently working with Microsoft to provide a solution. To date, a resolution has not been made; however, the CAC will inform the Penn State community once a solution is found. We apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused and we appreciate your patience during this time. Please note that all systems are scheduled for daily maintenance between 5:30 and 7:30 a.m. During this time, one or more Internet services may not be available. The CAC systems status page shows the current status of servers.
