Dial-up Service Change,
January 31, 2000

In an effort to improve modem service, the CAC has increased the number of digital modems that support high speed (V.90) modem calls to over 2000. As a result, most of the slower speed (V.34) modems, which answer at 863-7777, are being decommissioned. If you are currently using 863-7777, we recommend that you change your dial-up settings to use the higher speed modems at 863-2222. If you have trouble connecting via 863-2222, then you may want to try 863-7777. Note that the numbers cited here are located in area code 814. Also, 865 may be substituted for 863.

Following are the current dial-up phone numbers for University Park:

Charges are not incurred when using these dial-up numbers in residence halls at University Park.

Note that because of continuous changes in the structures and rates of telephone service companies, dial-up numbers may change without warning from a local to a long-distance call. Penn State cannot be responsible for long-distance charges incurred by using dial-up numbers. Consumers are responsible for understanding the options and rates provided by telephone service companies. If you are concerned about charges for the use of dial-up numbers, check your phone book for information, or contact your local telephone service representative.
