LIAS began the year 2002 with an important addition: Hershey Medical Center's library holdings were added to The CAT, Penn State Libraries' online catalog. Users can now search ALL Penn State Libraries, including Hershey, in one database. They can also limit searches within The CAT to retrieve only Hershey records.

Hershey's collection of over 22 thousand bibliographic titles considerably enriches The CAT by providing bibliographic descriptions for a number of medical books and titles not found at other Penn State locations.

The CAT has also been enhanced so that users can limit search results to materials that contain Medical Subject headings, which are specialized subject descriptors used in medical literature. This enables researchers to more finely tailor their search results and eliminate false hits.
