This was ITS third year supporting THON. Dave Beyerle and Chris Hubing of the ASET unit, along with several other University groups, were able to make the live video feed of the 46-hour dance marathon available to all Commonwealth Campuses, including the Hershey Medical Center. TNS also donated the use of a short-term, Integrated Backbone connection to the THON effort.

THON, a yearly dance marathon hosted by the Interfraternity and the Panhellenic Councils of Penn State University, raises money for Four Diamonds. Each year, hundreds of students gather together and dance non-stop for nearly two days to call attention to pediatric cancer and the need for more research. This collective effort, involving more than 15,000 students, has become one of Penn State's greatest and most unifying traditions and has raised more than $41 million over the past 34 years to help fight pediatric cancer.

Multicasting of THON has occurred since 2005, and is a cooperative effort of the following: THON Technology Committee, the College of Communications, Continuing and Distance Education, Auxiliary Services, and Information Technology Services.

According to data gathered by Penn State University Continuing and Distance Education, 10,772 visitors received the Windows Media Stream to view the event a total of 48,198 times.
