Graduate teaching assistants and academic departments are invited to participate in the Teaching with Technology (TWT) certificate program, detailed at http://tlt.its.psu.edu/support/twt/.
Through the free program, graduate students apply existing technology skills, acquire new skills, and develop a philosophy about teaching with technology. They assemble an online portfolio highlighting their knowledge and skills, under the guidance of a departmental representative. Upon approval of the portfolio, students receive a certificate from The Graduate School. This is especially valuable when seeking teaching positions, as employers are looking for personnel who have strong technology skills and can make decisions about appropriate use of technologies in education. Completed portfolios can be viewed at http://tlt.its.psu.edu/support/twt/completed.html.
The TWT program continues to grow. From the program's inception in December 2001 to December 2006, the program has awarded 50 certificates. At the start of the program, there were 2-3 certificates awarded a semester, now there are 8-12 awarded.ÊThe Department of Spanish, Italian, and Portuguese is the largest participating department with 28 awards. Graduate teaching assistants interested in participating should contact their TWT department representatives. A complete list is available at http://tlt.its.psu.edu/support/twt/contacts.html.
Students in departments without a listed representative can contact the TWT Coordinator at twtc@psu.edu for additional assistance in identifying a coordinator. Departments interested in encouraging their graduate students to participate in this program can also contact twtc@psu.edu for more information and consultation.
