The Center for Academic Computing (CAC) has installed additional V.90/ISDN modems for dial-up Internet access at University Park. The new modems can be accessed at (814) 689-2222.
There are now three phone numbers for accessing the CAC's modem pool (in area code 814):
56Kbps (V.90) or 128Kbps (ISDN) modems: 689-2222 or 863-2222
33.6Kbps (V.34) modems: 863-7777
The new dial-up number, 689-2222, works exactly like 863-2222. If you have been using 863-2222 as a local call, then 689-2222 will also be a local call. However, please note that there are two sets of modems: one set at 689-2222 and another set at 863-2222. These modems/dial-in phone numbers are separate and independent from each other. For example, dialing 689-2222 would not give you access to the modems at 863-2222, and vice versa.

SP/2 Upgrade
On Saturday, January 30, the CAC upgraded the IBM
SP/2 computer that provides a broad range of services including
Access Account E-mail and high performance parallel computing.
This upgrade, which was funded by both University and grant
funds, continues the long term strategy of providing state of the art
services for Penn State. It will allow the University's researchers to do
more complex models while at the same time increase the capacity of the
e-mail system.
