The Center for Academic Computing invites you to take advantage of free learning opportunities offered through Summer-Fest 1999. Whether you are beginning to use technology or you are a more experienced user planning to learn something new, the Summer-Fest workshops have something to offer! Most workshops are hands-on, while some will be informational sessions. Although workshops are skills-based, some are focused specifically on technology in the classroom.

The seminars are designed so that you can attend an introductory course such as "Introduction to Exploring the World Wide Web for Faculty" at the beginning of the week. Then, later in the week, you can apply the materials and skills developed in this course to a new context such as "Strategic Use of the Internet in the Penn State Classroom." You are also welcome to attend all three weeks and choose courses intermittently throughout the summer.

Penn State Web-Based Training
Computers and network-based information systems have become powerful tools for education, research and business. For this reason Penn State provides users with access to leading-edge computer and network services. The Center for Academic Computing (CAC) now offers Web-based, information-technology tutorials to help faculty, staff, and students improve their skills in using Penn State computer and network services.
The tutorials are self-paced and accessible to all Penn State faculty, staff, and students. Titles include: Eudora; Netscape; Microsoft Word; Microsoft Access 97; Listserv; Netscape Collabra 4.0; How to Check your Email at Places other than Penn State; Managing your Webspace-Accounts and FTP; Internet Relay Chat and mIRC; and Introduction to HTML 4.0. The tutorials take users through simple step-by-step instructions that simulate the software application and gives users ample practice opportunities. The tutorials can be thought of as a merger between books and the Internet, customized for the Penn State computing environment. The tutorials were designed and developed by students with faculty guidance by Dr. Gerry Santoro. New tutorials are added as they are created.

The Center for Academic Computing will be offering four special "Web Mondays" at the Penn Stater Conference
Center this summer. These advanced Web seminars will allow you to pick and choose the topics you would
like to learn about. Topics include Cascading Style Sheets, Frames, Surveys, Meta Tags, and Validation and
Checkers. There is a fee associated with these seminars. For further information and a schedule, please
