Penn State Launches Online Grade Recording Initiative:
Starting Fall 2002, all Penn State faculty will have the opportunity to record their end-of-the-semester
grades on the Web using eLion (http://elion.psu.edu/). In an effort
to make grade recording more convenient and reliable, Penn State is making several online grade-recording
options available and is discontinuing the previously used scanning system. The eLion Grade Entry service,
which has been available since Fall 2001, will be the primary method for recording grades. Faculty using this
option are expected to reap a number of benefits including:
- Convenience - grades can be recorded from any computer with an Internet connection, no special hardware or
software is required.
- Ease of use - no paper forms are required and grade entry is only a matter of clicking on the correct Web
location
- Immediate access - students will be able to access recorded grades via e-Lion immediately, eliminating
the need for faculty to notify them through other modes, such as bulletin boards and e-mail.
Other options available to faculty under the new plan include recording grades online through the
Integrated Student Information System (ISIS) and via the University Testing Service. The Registrar's
office has created a Web site:
http://www.psu.edu/registrar/faculty_staff/grade_entry.html,
that provides detailed information about this new grade reporting initiative and includes a demonstration of
both the eLion procedures for faculty and the ISIS screens for staff. Academic units that are interested in
meeting with staff from the registrar's office to learn more about these new services should contact Cheryl
Gallagher, cxh3@psu.edu at 863-3693.
