Red Hat Linux Now Available at Educational Rates

Penn State's Information Technology Services organization (ITS) and the well known software vendor, Red Hat, have entered into an agreement to make the Red Hat Linux Operating System available to departments throughout the University at a significant educational discount.

Red Hat, using an open source model, provides the higher education community with a stable, supported, and certified Linux operating system for both client and server applications at extremely inexpensive rates. The open source solution, adopted by Red Hat, also allows for the continual rapid development of software features and functionality.

Red Hat Linux Workstation and Server Licenses can be purchased through Penn State's Computer Store with departmental funds only. Student and personal licenses are not offered at this time, but will become available at a later date. A Workstation license costs $15.00 and a server license is $25.00. Both licenses are available to departments at all Penn State campus locations.

Questions pertaining to the Red Hat Linux Operating System contract can be directed to Toni Baylets via PSULSS@psu.edu or by calling 865-2100. To purchase this product over the Web, go to http://computerstore.psu.edu.
