Computing Times

3. Check out the Web.

To access the Web, go to a Macintosh or Windows computer at one of the ITS computing labs and log in with your Penn State Access Account user ID and password.

On a Macintosh computer, double-click the “software” icon, then double-click the “Internet Explorer” icon or the “Netscape Lite” icon.

On a Windows computer, double-click the “Netscape Communicator” or “Internet Explorer” icon. The Penn State “home page” on the Web should appear within seconds (http://www.psu.edu/). Choose
Info Tech” on Penn State’s home page to find more information about computer services and resources.

4. Change your password.

While you’re on the Web, take the time to change your password at https://www.work.psu.edu/ . Instructions are provided on that page. If you forget your password, you need to present your Penn State photo ID at a consulting location, the Computer Accounts Office or to other computer support staff. They will help you request a password reset back to the original password that you were given. If you don't remember what that was, go to any signature station and swipe your ID card to see your original password. If you have any difficulty, consultants in Willard Building (room 2) can help.
For the security of your academic records your password cannot be reset by phone or e-mail.

5. Get Your Guide to Information Technology Services.

It contains instructions for accessing the Internet, along with a number of need-to-know items that might be useful to have in a computing emergency, such as who to call for help and where the nearest lab is. Printed guides are available at Help Desks located in 2 Willard Building and 215 Computer Building. You can also find Your Guide to Information Technology Services on the Web.
