Getting Started

Organizations and individuals can set up their own Web server or take advantage of the Information Technology Services' Web service. To get started, you need the following:

• High-speed access to the Internet (see Your Guide to Information Technology@Penn State, formerly Internet Access Guide for instructions).

• A computer on which to compose your files.

• Software for processing your files (a word processor or text editor).

• A server - a computer on which your files will be stored (required for World Wide Web, Gopher, or FTP service).

• Knowledge of HyperText Markup Language (HTML)
