Before You Start
- Windows: This system has been tested under Windows with Word 2000, Word 2002 and Word 2003. It will not function correctly in earlier versions of Word.
- Macintosh: This system has also been tested under Macintosh 9.x with Word 2001 and Macintosh X with Word X. It will not function correctly in earlier versions of Word.
- Folder: For the PsuThesi package to work correctly, your thesis files (i.e., Chapter1.doc), PsuThesi.dot, PsuStyles.dot and PsuSettings.ini must all be in your thesis folder (called Mythesis in this discussion).
- Filenames: In short, do not rename your thesis files. PsuThesi allows you to map titles to files.
- Cursor: The cursor position can govern what will happen with certain functions. For example, the “Long Quotation” function will do one of 3 things. If the cursor is in the middle of a paragraph, it will apply the “LongQuote” style to that paragraph. If the cursor is at the beginning of a paragraph, it will insert a new “LongQuote” paragraph in front of it. If the cursor is at the end of a paragraph, it will insert a new “LongQuote” paragraph after it.
- Messages: PsuThesi will display some messages on the Word status bar line at the bottom of the screen so that you are not interrupted.

| The Thesis Folder
The first thing you must do is download an archive file which will expand into a thesis folder when you execute it. The name of the folder created is your choice, but for this discussion we will call the folder Mythesis. The initial contents of the folder is shown below. The instructions for installing are in the PsuInstallSteps.doc file and are also given below.
Initial Mythesis folder:
FrontMatterDoctor.doc FrontMatterHonors.doc FrontMatterMaster.doc FrontSignatoryDoctor.doc FrontSignatoryMaster.doc PsuInstallSteps.doc PsuReadMe.doc PsuSettings.ini PsuStyles.dot PsuThesi.dot PsuUsersGuide.doc
|
| Downloading and Expanding
If you are a new user the download process will involve downloading an archive file which, when expanded, will create a folder containing all the initial software, e.g., Mythesis.
If you are upgrading versions, you will just download the program template PsuThesi.dot and replace the one in your thesis folder, e.g., Mythesis(PsuThesi.dot).
If you want a local copy of the PsuThesi LocalWebpages (for help) you must download the archive file PsuLocalWebPages.exe and expand it into the thesis folder, e.g., Mythesis\LocalWebPages\...
The file you download can be placed on the desktop before it is expanded. The file is named PsuThesi.exe with Windows and PsuThesi.zip with Macintosh. Simply double-click on the downloaded file and follow the directions. Windows users will be asked to UnZip files and name the thesis folder. Macintosh users will be directed to a program list to unzip the files -- most likely you will select Stuffit Expander.
Go to Download the Windows software |
Installing PsuThesi on Windows
- Launch Microsoft Word
- Pull down [Tools] to [Macro] to (Security)
Select the "Security Level" tab Click the "Medium" setting (only need to do this once)
- Pull down [File] to (Open)
- Open the file PsuThesi.dot in the folder Mythesis.
This will add PsuThesi to the Word Global Templates; And it will also present a new “Thesi” Toolbar
- You will then be presented with an Initial Settings menu to complete.
- Then you will be asked to set the thesis Base Font.
- And then the thesis files will be created for you.
(You’re ready to start)
